Anne Stephens was born in New York, NY, where she currently resides. She has a BA from Manhattanville College and Ph.D. from Columbia University. She is a professor of English literature at Columbia. Other than the afternoons when she teaches classes, she rarely leaves her apartment. She is the author of a collection of poems entitled, What Doesn’t Make You Stronger Kills You.
The first three poems are homophonic translations of portions of Pessoa’s source poet Alberto Caeiro’s The Keeper of Sheep. The last poem is a homophonic translation of a portion of Adam Mickiewicz’s Pan Tadeusz.
