CD: And then it just turned out that it was also an incredibly wealthy family’s name.

JF: Right. This is like only four generations old. But that would be really cool if you found out I was secretly rich.

CD: This interview is just a hidden camera reality show. “Well, I did some research and it turns out you’re the heiress to the Firestone family fortune!”

JF: Oh my god! Just hand over the check.

CD: Ok, let’s get into it. What draws you to an idea?

JF: What draws me to an idea? I guess it’s something where I like doing it, or I like seeing other people do it and then I’ll form a show around it. For example, The Pizza Themed 10-Minute Play Festival with Free Pizza.

I’ve been talking about pizza for a while. I keep — I just kind of get obsessed with certain things; I got obsessed with celery, I got obsessed with pizza. And I was getting obsessed with pizza and I was like, “Okay, this is my favorite pizza, and then I like this kind of pizza at night.” I was ranking all these pizzas.

I was like, “Why have I thought about pizza so much?” I was like, “What if there were a play that’s all about pizza?” And just because I was like, “People must love pizza,” and I love getting free stuff at shows — and I love free pizza — I thought it would be fun to have a pizza-themed show. But a lot of times with these themed shows, they’re kinda half-assed. People don’t really commit, so I structured it as plays. Because if it’s a play, people would have to write, and memorize, and rehearse. So it was kind of, “What is the medium that will demand the most out of people?”
