AS: It’s interesting that you’d go full circle like this and come back to American music.

DW: We kind of had to build it up to that point. I’m a bit of a comedy snob so it was a matter of seeing how we could continue to broaden the show and still tell great stories.

JK: I’m super excited about the American Music episode, actually. Part of it tells the story of “Rapper’s Delight.”

DW: The interesting thing about that story is that they [the Sugarhill Gang] were the first boy band. You know, like the Spice Girls and the Backstreet Boys. It was a very planned thing. I’m really excited about the American Music episode, especially the stories of Johnny Cash and Kris Kristofferson because not many people know who he is. I’m a total music nerd. I’m obsessed. Music is everything.

AS: Isn’t there an urban legend that Whoopi Goldberg helped fund that song?

JK: That would definitely be an urban legend. It’s possible. I don’t claim to know everything about everything but I definitely know a lot more about history than I used to. I’ve become a history buff.
