JK: It is really a constant process trying to figure out where someone is being funny, where they’re being too sober, where they’re being too sad. The reality is alcohol is a depressant and things can take a turn. With some people it’s no problem and with some people it gets a little sad.

AS: You’ve got a medical professional on staff and even have a breathalyzer on hand just in case a storyteller goes a bit too far. Have y’all ever thought of including that kind of footage in the show to act as a warning to people not to try this at home, so to speak?

Derek Waters: It’s a bunch of comedians getting drunk on TV so they tend to go as hard as they can.

AS: Go big or go home, right?

JK: You know, they really shouldn’t try this at home. Although, let’s be clear: if everybody in the world stayed at home, had a few drinks, and talked about history, the world would be a better place. What we’re doing is not that dangerous. Some people drink more than others. Some people don’t drink that much at all.
